About Jack Floobles
I’m Jack Floobles, movie critic. I’m 28 years old. I live in Queens, and I have a pet rock. The first movie I ever saw in the theater was La Bamba. Odd choice I know, but that’s what my mom first took me to. I loved the theater immediately. I love the atmosphere of sitting in those seats and watching the screen light up. I love the whir of the old projectors. I love the flicker on the screen. I was born to love movies. And now I’m taking a crack at critiquing them.
In some ways, I think the role of the movie critic has died in recent years. I think people have decided whether or not they will see a movie before they’ve read a review. You can tell because people will negatively comment a critic’s remarks before they’ve ever seen the movie. My feeling is everybody is a movie critic. If you’ve seen a movie, you’ve made some judgment on it, whether it be positive or negative. When you sit behind that screen and you watch the film for that 90 minutes or more, you can’t help but pass judgment on the actors, the plot, the mood, the visuals, the sounds, etc. You might not be aware of the criticisms you’re making, but you’re a critic regardless. The minute you step out of that theater, what’s the first thing you say to yourself? Besides, where’s the rest room of course. You ask, “Did I like that film?” Or you ask the person with you, “What did you think?” And right there, movie criticism is born.
I hope you’ll enjoy my criticisms. Join in the conversation. Feel free to contact me and send me your opinions. I’ll publish your letters. I’ll read and reply to your comments. I want to hear from my readers, if I have any.
